(hear me out on this one)
Here's my tip to back for the world cup: England.
Why?
Because 8/1 is actually a pretty good price (and bet365 are doing a special where you get your money back if they go out on pens - so a fair chance of a refund there if history is anything to go by.)
England are usually backed in to a stupid price by hype and over-expectation but for some reason this year there seems to be a wave of pessimism about them due to an injury that won't make much difference and a few mediocre friendly performances that don't count for anything.
In fact there is a lot in their favour - they have a very decent draw offering a fairly easy passage to the semis, there's no baking heat to contend with which usually hampers them, and finally - for the first time since Bobby Robson in 1990 - they have a world class manager.
And - maybe most important of all - think of it as an 'emotional hedge' or an insurance policy. England winning the world cup is going to be hell - wouldn't you like to have a nice wedge of money to compensate you?
And wouldn't you be prepared to pay a little bit if it meant them not winning? Work out how much and you have your stake.
England 8/1 at either bet365(refund of stake if they go out on pens), Stan James (refund of stake if Spain win), William Hill, Paddy Power or Victor Chandler.
It does sound like an excellent idea but I think I'd go down the Stan James route.
England have an abundance of penalty takers. Rooney, Defoe, Milner, Gerrard, Lampard. How about that for five that frequently and successfully take them for they're club. _________________ The Coin of destiny is not your friend and is not to be trusted.
